The Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Padangpanjang was born based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) of the Republic of Indonesia Number 60 of 2009 dated December 31 2009. In this Presidential Decree it was stipulated that starting January 1 2010 the Indonesian Art College (STSI) changed to the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI), then 17 July 2010 ISI Padangpanjang was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of National Education (Wamendiknas), Prof. Dr. Fasli Jalal, P.hd. At that time the Deputy Minister of National Education appointed Prof. Dr. Daryusti, M. Hum. as Acting Chancellor, Andar Indra Sastra, S.Sn., M.Hum. as Plt. Vice Chancellor I, Lazuardi, S.Kar., M.Hum. as Plt. Vice Chancellor II, and Martarosa, S.Sn., M.Hum. as Plt. Vice Chancellor III.
