Since 1991 based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No.0310/O/1991 regarding the arrangement of Polytechnics within the University and Institute, the name of the ITS FNGT Shipping Polytechnic was changed to the Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic and is no longer under the organizational structure of FNGT but is still part of ITS . Based on the Decree of the Minister of State for Empowerment of State Apparatus Number B-703/1/1995 1995 the name of the Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic was changed to the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic. Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 6 of 2014 and the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 42 of 2014, the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic is officially declared an independent university and is the only State Polytechnic in charge of shipping. In the era of globalization, the name of the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic (PPNS) is known as the Shipbuilding Institute of Polytechnic Surabaya (SHIPS).
