STMKG was founded in Bandung in 1955 under the name Academy of Meteorology and Geophysics (AMG), its campus is at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). In 1960, AMG was moved to Jakarta, its campus is at the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (LMG) Office Jl. Arief Rakhman Hakim No. 3 Central Jakarta. 1960 - 1978 AMG under the Center for Meteorology and Geophysics. As of January 1, 2005 AMG is under the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) as a Non-Departmental Government Institution (LPND), based on KBMG Decree No. 003 of 2004. 2014 was a historic year for the STMKG family, because this year the Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2014 was promulgated on 23 April 2014 concerning the change of the Meteorology and Geophysics Academy (AMG) into the College of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics ( STMKG) which is under the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
